Winter is a chance to have fun and get fit on the slopes, it’s not just for staying in and watching box-sets!

Skiing & Snowboarding

Glenshee, Lecht, Alford Ski Centre and of course there’s Aberdeen Snowsports Centre that are all located close to the Bothies and offer varying slope experiences. If you want to learn then you’re in luck because each centre offers excellent training facilities from beginner to advanced, you can choose from a class, go private, hire an instructor for your group or if you’re feeling fit there’s even race training.

Cross Country Ski Trails

Aberdeenshire is home to the biggest ski area in Scotland with the most reliable snow conditions found at Clashindorrack Forest near Rhynie; almost an hours drive from the Bothies. The Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre is the only purpose-built all-weather Nordic skiing centre offering ski hire, lessons and route maps taking in the landscape and wildlife of the Clashindorrack Forest. Here you can practice cross country skiing considered an easy-to-learn sport on moderate gradients using lighter skis and boots making it a more comfortable and less extreme winter sport experience.

Dry Slopes

You shouldn’t let no snow stop you on your stay with us at the Cairngorm Bothies because there are dry slopes nearby to satisfy your extreme winter sport needs. The Aberdeen Snowsports Centre have a dry slope and even have activity camps for children during the school holidays in October. Alford Ski Centre also offers dry slope facilities for year-round skiing and snowboarding.

Tubing

You can always sit down on the slopes if you’re not as steady on your feet because each centre has tubing facilities. Tubing is fun for all the family – come bombing down a slope on an inflatable donut – no snow required!
