At Cairngorm Bothies, we’re committed to providing unforgettable outdoor experiences while minimising our environmental impact. Our latest project involves creating a new mountain bike route that connects our Bothies to the award winning Tarland Trails mountain bike facilities. This new route will allow our guests to enjoy a route that takes them for the majority of the way Off road across the Knockargerty Hill with panoramic views of Royal Deeside and Donside.
Our goal is to establish a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable mountain bike route that benefits both our guests and the local community. By minimising the use of public roads, our aim is to assist in reducing traffic congestion, noise pollution, and the risk of accidents.
Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms are regarded as the best in Scotland for cycling and mountain biking. From gentle cycling along flat and quiet country lanes to arduous mountain trails. The Cairngorm area around Cairngorm Bothies has something to satisfy every level of cyclist.

6 Steps to improve GPS accuracy on your device:
1. Enable Precise Location: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Find the specific app you want and ensure Precise Location is enabled. This allows apps to use your exact location rather than an approximate one.
2. Ensure Clear Line of Sight: For best results, ensure you’re outside or have a clear line of sight to the sky, as GPS works better without obstructions like buildings or roofs.
3. Enable Wi-Fi: Even if you’re not connected to a network, having Wi-Fi on can improve location accuracy, as iOS uses Wi-Fi networks to assist GPS when indoors or in urban areas.
4. Update to the Latest iOS Version: Sometimes, updates improve GPS performance or fix issues that may be affecting accuracy.
5. Turn Off Low Power Mode: Low Power Mode can limit background GPS tracking, so if accuracy is crucial, consider turning it off while using location-intensive apps.
6. Calibrate Your Compass: You can do this by moving your smart phone in a figure-8 motion a few times. This helps recalibrate the phone’s sensors, which may improve location accuracy.
These adjustments help optimise GPS accuracy across all apps, including non-Apple ones.
