Bothy
What is a Bothy?
ˈbä-thē
noun
plural noun: bothies
(in Scotland) a small hut or cottage, especially one for housing farm labourers or for use as a mountain refuge. Origin – late 18th century: obscurely related to Irish and Scottish Gaelic both, bothan, and perhaps to booth.
As the name suggests we took our inspiration from bothies. Upon approaching your individual bothy you will become immersed in an atmosphere of seclusion, mimicking that of the traditional mountain refuges the name originates from. Carefully constructed with the aim of creating as little disturbance to the surrounding forest as possible, each bothy is built elevated from the ground and set back into the rich lush healthy land. Our aim was integrate forest living whilst minimising the environmental impact. Each bothy has been strategically positioned to give an unspoilt view in to the forest so that guests can enjoys the woodland’s flora and fauna.
Having lived and worked in the local area for generations we wanted to be able to welcome guests to share our special and unique part of Scotland. We all need to escape from time to time and where better than a forest hideaway on a Highland Estate – make it your own for a special break.
