Our Calendar of Dark Sky Events

From October to March, we will be running bespoke Star & Moon Bathing Parties. These will try to coincide with astronomical events as well as full moons. Ideally, the moonless nights are best for star gazing. The moon is a fascinating spectacle in its own right, of course. From the point of view of observing the stars, it can cause a brightness that washes out the fainter stars. The best observations are in the new moon periods. A clear and frosty night is best!

Exclusive: The Cairngorm Dark Sky Group Experience

Our Cairngorm Excursions offer bespoke ‘Starbathing’ evenings for groups seeking a unique celestial escape.

This unique experience is now tailored for group bookings with a minimum of 8 people (residents and non-residents welcome). From October to March, we can organise special stargazing events that coincide with astronomical events or full moons.

Your Group Experience Includes:

Guided Trek: Your group will be met at Cairngorm Bothies and guided through the ancient Scots Pine forest trails to a centralised viewing location.
Cosy Comfort: Enjoy rustic log seating, hot drinks, a blanket to keep you warm, and a Star bathing goody bag containing red LED head torches and other essentials.
Expert Insight: A guide will help you interpret the night’s sky with the help of mobile devices and downloadable apps.

What to expect with a Cairngorm Bothies Dark Sky event?

We provide a centralised location and will guide you to the evening location.
We will provide you with rustic log seating, hot drinks and a blanket to keep you warm.
We will provide you red LED head torches (reduces light spreading and interference with other observers)
We will provide you with our Star bathing goody bag.
We will guide you through the woods & trails.
We will provide car parking areas for you
We will help you interpret your own mobile phone devices with what you see. We have sets of binoculars, but, practically, the best tool is your own smartphone. PLEASE DOWNLOAD ALL SUGGESTED APPS IN ADVANCE, BRING A FULLY CHARGED PHONE WITH PLENTY OF STORAGE 😉

We will provide a good time; albeit that we cannot control either the weather or the degree of star visibility.

What to do in advance of attending your Star Bathing Party?

Advance Bookings Only. We need to have a group of 8 people for a bespoke event to go ahead with a limit of 20 people. These must be arranged a minimum of 2 weeks in advance. Price on application.

Dress up in warm clothes, hats, gloves, scarfs, and bring a waterproof – and a sense of humour – if it is raining or snowing. In fact, bring your sense of humour anyway.

**Note: Forecasted storms or severe weather conditions may cause us to cancel the bespoke group events at short notice. Having said that, we are “Scottish” and that means we are “hardy” and that means we need a lot to stop us having a party.
